“Then I think George went to Hawaii. When he came back we hung out some more. We had an immediate connection.  We were really good friends and our families were friends. He brought the kids, and the kids formed lifetime friendships.” - Tom Petty, “ Runnin’ Down a Dream: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers” by Tom Petty page 157

“His wife Olivia was just so happy. “ Carl Perkins would later report, “She told me in the dressing room after the show, ‘Carl, I don’t know what to say to you, because I saw my old George so happy tonight.  I saw something there I hadn’t seen in a long time.’..” - excerpted from “ Mystical One: George Harrison : After the Break-up of the Beatles” by author, Elliot J. George’s mom, Louise French Harrison (1911-1970) was very proud and supportive of her youngest son. From his infancy on she encouraged George in everything he wanted to do. During the early Beatlemania years, Louise would respond to George’s fan mail taking hours on end to do so and befriended a few fans as well. (x)

I love Mrs. Harrison so much and with this being Mother’s Da y weekend in the UK I would like to do a very special tribute for her.

‘When George was ten, a classmate offered to sell him a beginner’s guitar for three pounds, ten shillings. It was a lot of money in those days but George’s mother bought it for him. His father had a friend who ran a pub and played guitar, and he showed George how to finger chords to tunes from the twenties and thirties such as ‘Dinah’ and ‘Whispering’ George tried the new chords out for his mother, twisting the guitar pegs until each string came as close to true as he could manage, positioning his fingers to best effect. The instruments’ cheap wooden neck bent, and his fingers bled from pushing down on the strings. 'I’ll never learn this’ he said. 'You will son,’ Louise encouraged, 'Just keep at it’. She sat up with him until he quit, teary eyed, at two-o-clock in the morning He looked at the toy instrument and chafed . ‘You don’t understand about guitars, do you Mum’ he said. 'No,’ she admitted 'But if you stick to it, I’m sure you’ll make it’  -Excerpt from the book, ‘Here Comes the Sun: The Spiritual and Musical Journey of George Harrison’ by Joshua M. Greene page 5

'That was one thing that was very nice. My parents both liked music; they used to go out dancing a lot. And when I first wanted a guitar, my mother bought me this very cheap guitar worth three pounds, ten shilling, or about six dollars. And she didn’t mind that I used to stay up until two in the morning polishing my guitar and trying to learn how to play. Later, when I got to know John and Paul, she used to love having them around singing in the back room. She was very encouraging about that’ -George Harrison to Scott Muni, 1987

'She was excellent with the fans. Would let them into her house, give them a cup of tea. Yo u know, every day she would just sat down and write letters to all these kids. But they were very protective of George, maybe it was because he was the youngest Beatle.’  - Freda Kelly - excerpt from 'Good Ole Freda’

While pregnant with George, one of her favorite programs to listen to was a weekly program Radio India. “Every Sunday she tuned in to mystical sounds evoked by sitars and tablas, hoping that the exotic music would bring peace and calm to the baby in the womb.’ - excerpt from the book ‘Here Comes The Sun: The Spiritual and Musical Journey of George Harrison’ by Joshua M. Greene

“I felt as if I had lost everything. Quite silly, really, as we were in the car with them returning from the ceremony, and George took my hand and said, ‘It doesn’t mean because I’m married I don’t need you anymore, Mum. We need you more now.’ He’s such a lovable son, and cares about how people feel.”-Louise Harrison on George’s marriage to Pattie

In celebration of ‘Mother’s Day’ March 15, 2015 and this being a special weekend for moms over in the United Kingdom, I would like to take a moment and wish Olivia an awesome ‘Mommy’s Day’! She is an amazing mom to Dhani and like George I will always think of her as a genuinely beautiful lady, inside and out. Happy Mommy’s Day, Liv!

“We were big enough to command an audience of that size, and it was for love. It was for love and bloody peace. It was a fabulous time. I even get excited now when I realize that’s what it was for: peace and love, people putting flowers in guns.”- Ringo on “Our World”
